Sibling Support Group

Throughout their lives, most brothers and sisters have the same concerns that parents with special needs children experience as well as issues that are uniquely theirs. Concerns are often best addressed when they become the focus of attention in a group experience where siblings begin to recognize that they are not alone in these feelings, begin to normalize what they are experiencing and learn effective strategies and tools for meeting their own personal needs. Often the maturity of brothers and sisters develop as a result of successfully coping with a siblingʼs special needs.

The Sibling Support Group is provided as a commitment to the life-long concerns of brothers and sisters of people who have special health, developmental, or mental health concerns. We believe that disabilities, illness, and mental health issues affect the lives of all family members. Consequently, we want to increase the peer support and information opportunities for brothers and sisters of people with special needs and to increase parents and providers understanding of sibling issues.

Our mission is accomplished by licensed, trained and specialized therapists who are focused on creating an environment for understanding and validation for young siblings and increasing parents awareness of the siblings unique, lifelong, and ever-changing concerns through presentations, websites, and written materials.
